The Unforgetting of Mary K

Contemporary artists bring the musical scores of a 20th century child prodigy to life

Wed 21 Nov
Grainger Museum
Price: $35 - $45

Featuring Aarti Jadu + Anomie + Dani Kirby + Elle Shimada + Siwei Wong + Matt Ward

The evening will see works from 20th century Melbourne child-prodigy Mary Kiernan performed by six contemporary musicians as they remix and reinterpret each piece for this very special MMW event hosted by the Grainger Museum.

Kiernan composed her first orchestral work at age 14. In the 40’s and 50’s she went on to study under the best masters in England and Europe, tour North Africa, work for the BBC, and compose numerous works for piano and voice under pen-name Robert Nicolet.

Artists Anomie (aka Sofie Loizou, Sydney), Elle Shimada (Melbourne and Tokyo) and Siwei Wong (Melbourne), Dani Kirby and Matt Ward (Melbourne and Hobart), Aarti Jadu (Melbourne and Perth) and more will be performing with one-of-a-kind instruments from Percy Grainger’s Collection.

This event is part of MMW’s Self-Made series, which showcases and supports original, innovative music events by Melbourne’s emerging producers.
